Major Depressive Disorder(MDD)
When someone experiences intense feeling of sadness for more than 2 weeks, then they may be experiencing a mood disorder know as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) also known as Clinical Depression or Unipolar Depression is a mood disorder that interferes with a persons daily life. It is a condition whereby a person has one or more Major Depressive Episode.
*Major Depressive Episode is a period of low mood and other symptoms of Depression.
Individuals with Major Depressive Disorder are at high risk of suicide.
SYMPTOMS OF MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER
1. Restlessness
2. Lack of Energy
3. Changes in weight
4. Fatigue
5. Socially isolated
6. Feeling worthless
7. Difficulty in concentrating
8. Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
9. Poorer academic performance
10. Increase in the use of Drugs, Alcohol etc.
11. Thoughts of death or suicide
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is triggered by different kind of things like medical conditions or illnesses, abuse of alcohol or drugs, abuse during childhood, low self-esteem or being over self- critical, loneliness, upsetting or stressful life events etc.
Major Depressive Disorder can be treated with the right medication and psychotherapy.
